Use this when
- A protagonist who feels passive even though many events happen around them
- A rewrite where major turns need to grow from character choices
- Writers comparing agency patterns across important draft changes

See who drives the story
Turn a vague note about a passive protagonist into a visual map of choices, reactions, turning points and consequences.

Choices create the shape
The direct answer
The Character Agency report maps where a character drives events and where events drive the character. It uses beat-level observations and visual scoring to show patterns across the script, then gives the writer places to investigate rather than treating passivity as a single number.

Inside the result
The report separates moments where the character initiates meaningful action from moments where they mainly receive, observe or respond to events.
A visual timeline makes long passive stretches, decisive turning points and changes between acts easier to see than a single overall comment.
The analysis highlights where a clearer choice, tactic, consequence or refusal could return story ownership to the character without making them invincible.
Start with the person whose choices should create the film's main chain of consequences. Agency is not the same as screen time or likeability.
Every protagonist reacts sometimes. The useful question is whether reaction becomes a new choice and whether the major turns belong to the character.
For each weak stretch, ask what the character attempts and what that attempt changes. A failed choice can carry more agency than an easy success.
Strengthening one central decision can reshape several later scenes more effectively than adding activity everywhere.
